After having a tabletop can opener that sucked, it’s hard to explain the level of excitement felt in the kitchen today…….

My kitchen would have someone remove the blade and sharpen it every 2 or 3 years and we would always revel in its smoothness after

New ones are amazing! Keep it clean and it will last a very long time!

Man, I used to have a CDC gig at a winery with a big wood fired pizza oven and a 110 seat patio restaurant. You can imagine how many cans of tomatoes we would have to crack for pizza sauce.

The exec refused to let me install a table mounted can opener because the only place that made sense to put it was a butcher block top. Every can was opened with a handheld until he was fired and I took over.

Teaching college students in the cafeteria how to use one of these was always a fun endeavor.

Prep chefs just opening cans for the hell of it.

I’ve never seen a new one! Didn’t even know they made them new. Just assumed they always looked… like that.

They even do the corners on square tins!

In 2011 I took over an Italian restaurant, and there was on of the can openers mounted(!), but in terrible shape, and mounted in a not optimal position.

Took it apart, found a better place to mount it, bought a new blade. The old owner was still around, “checking” my operations out, and saw what I’ve had done with the opener.

    “That ole thing works???”

Any new Appliances Are SO very exciting. 💯

  10. Congrats! Gotta keep that baby clean. Or you’ll never be able to get the blade out to sharpen.

Cheap ones literally just fall apart piece by piece, i hate them.

Get more band aids. Trust me

Keep that entire mechanism clean/free ofndebris or it will eat away at the teeth and be a royal pain to use! I’ve spent too many years bracing cans against the blade because the teeth were worn down.

  14. We got $3200(maybe $2300, either way) electric ones, and holy shit do they suck and I miss the smash and turns

They sell extra knives for these, go get some right fucking now. The only way these openers break is people slam it down because the knife gets dull.

Left the business when I was 30, but this just brought back so many memories.

How it feels to get that new can opener.

My god, it’s beautiful. The one at my old job was so sad and abused

Oh man. I had one of these skin the back of my hand when I was teenager working in a kitchen. The lid “jumped” after opening it and just tore my hand up.

Seeing it again makes me shutter.

I looked in the walk-in for tomato paste. There was none……So I had to be the first one to use the brand new, shiny, spotless canopener. It was glorious to say the least….

Do we still get to ruin knives by stabbing the bottom?

  22. paraworldblue

God DAMN I wanna crank that knob

Teaching the servers how to use these was always fun. Gotta slam that bitch down and if you ever don’t push down the open lid after tossing the dish washer will cut your tires.
