“Which one do YOU think is the bigger culprit in most gardens — cold soil or nitrogen imbalance?”
Great advice! I have a deck full of pepper and eggplant plants that are just waiting for us to hit a consistent 60°F at night.
In tropical zones peppers fry in direct sun. Shade cloth is essential
I do not have this problem with peppers, but onions are my cryptonite! I have never been able to get large onions no matter what I try! Peppers are always slow until it gets hot! They are a tropical plant and do not like cold nights!
Great basic info that makes a BIG difference in pepper plant growth. I'd like to add that the temperature of your water changes soil temps…as watering with cold water will drop your soil temp and keep it low for a long time. As a garden tool I recommend a digital 'soil' thermometer and take the soil temperature before and after watering as a way to familiarize yourself with the effect your plants are dealing with. Take care and Happy Gardening.
I live in Seattle where we have very few 60+ degree nights. I put my peppers in a bed with a clear plastic tent last year and it was my best season ever. Bonus, it protected them from slugs too

Thanks Wolfman! I'm definitely guilty of the mistakes your mentioned! #new subscription🎉
my scotchbonnet pepper plant started turning white. The leaves just became limpy. Its not mildew. I dont know what it is..
8 hours of direct sunlight? I agree. But not in the middle of day when the sun is scorching.
I plant my peppers behind the tomatoes. The peppers get direct sunlight in the morning and the evening.
But not in the hottest moment of the day. And this works just great.
I have a hard time growing them indoors before putting them outside. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
