OLIVEDA brings water–which saves water used in the production of Waterless Beauty–to Africa ( (C) OLIVEDA)

OLIVEDA International announced that olive farmer and founder of OLIVE TREE PEOPLE, Thomas Lommel, met with government representatives from the Arusha region in Tanzania, Africa, on April 14, 2026, to introduce the “Waterless Beauty” movement–an initiative that is now active worldwide across the United States, Canada, and Europe, and is supported by over 70,000 “Waterless Beauty Pioneers.”

OLIVE TREE PEOPLE is not only a pioneer in the field of Waterless Beauty but also the global leader in this sector, and it also spearheads the G-Beauty movement (German Beauty) in North America.

“Water is for drinking, not for skincare,” explained Thomas Lommel. “The water we don’t use in our products, we bring to people in Africa by building wells there since 2013.”

“The beauty industry is extremely water-intensive. About 80% of all cosmetic formulations consist of 60 to 95% distilled water. This amounts to approximately 78 billion liters of water per year–or, put another way, enough drinking water to supply more than 105 million people, based on an average annual consumption of about 730 liters of drinking water per person.”

“All government representatives were fully convinced after our presentation, and so OLIVE TREE PEOPLE confirmed its commitment to support another 90 villages in the Arusha region by drilling wells. Accompanied by television stations such as Arusha Zone TV, the OLIVE TREE PEOPLE delegation was warmly welcomed the very next day in the Maasai villages, where they began drilling the first wells.

Mr. Lommel added: “We don’t sell beauty products–we promote Waterless Beauty! Many people are unaware that cosmetic products where ‘water’ is listed as the first ingredient in the INCI list actually consist of about 70% distilled water. Furthermore, in face creams or body lotions, this 70% water content is often combined with up to 25% ‘refined oils’–that is, industrially processed oils or even petroleum.

“More and more people are enthusiastic about how purposeful and fulfilling our work is, and every day more join our Waterless Beauty movement–because they love introducing others to the concept of Waterless Beauty. Many get involved to support our well projects in Africa, or appreciate the conservation work surrounding our more than 30,000 mountain olive trees that we care for in southern Spain. Still others appreciate the interconnectedness of it all, but above all, most people love the sustainable cycle we’ve built over the past 23 years: From Tree to Beauty.

“I believe that meaningful careers represent the future and that this is a dream shared by many. We do not engage in charity, nor do we give anything back to Africa. We are building a sustainable cycle–just as trees and nature have done for millions of years. We give, and we receive, and the knowledge we gain in the process is often far greater than what we give,” concluded Thomas Lommel.
