What are the spots that you’re going to?

I mean, I live kind of far from everybody, and sometimes I like it that way. Sometimes I don’t. But I am right by this trail, and I bought myself a mountain bike for my birthday last year, and I go mountain biking on this dirt trail by my house. I’ll do that for an hour just to exhaust myself. And that’s a California bonus: I can ride my bike on a hill and I’m around now. I’m around nature. In any pocket of the city, you can get to a trail or run all the stereotypical hikes in LA I like to do. I think they’re great. They’re clichés for a reason. They’re fucking awesome.

We talked a little bit about diet as in food, but do you like to cook?

I make a lot of steak. I’ve just gotten my steak recipe down.

Which is what?

I just like to cook it the French way. So I’ve invested in a really beautiful cast iron, and I’ll order really good quality steak. Or I’ll go to a butcher and I’ll crisp ’em on both sides, get it as hot as possible, and then I’ll put it in the oven and bake it and put some butter on it. And I really liked that ritual of just making a good piece of meat and as much greens as possible. But I also, I just eat so much pasta and rice and I just love white carbs so much. And yeah, it’s really simple like that. I’m not too fancy with my cooking. I’ve only made two successful chicken breasts in my life. The rest are dry or undercooked, so I’m working on it. I would like to be a better cook.

Tell Me Lies premiered in 2022. Now you’ve officially wrapped. We’ve talked so much about mindset and mental health and exercise. How do you feel like your mindset has shifted? How do you feel like your priorities have shifted since you started filming that first season?

As I got through my twenties, I just got less insecure about the way I’m going to look on camera. And when that started happening, I started locking into like, ‘oh, shit, I want to be happy,’ because when I’m happy, I do my best work…I think the theme we’re finding is mental clarity. I think it’s a great part of exercise, especially in this business when it can be such a vain, inherently narcissistic business, and so you have to, it’s natural to fall into those patterns when you’re in this job, but it’s the practice of pushing against it.

It’s the practice of saying, OK, it’s not about me. Just try and be happy. Keep your life rounded out so that you’re not focused on one thing, focused on getting this job or doing this thing so that when you do do the job, you can give it your all and you’re not distracted. I don’t want to do anything half-assed in my life. If I want to do something, even a workout, I want to do it with 100% focus or else I don’t want to do it. That’s just how I like to roll.
