Gold: Selene

A surge in openings over the last few years led to the launch of this new category—and, no surprises, it was instantly a competitive one. The darling of Hastings–Sunrise, Selene, wins top honours for the finesse and care it takes on creating a fine-dining destination for Greek cuisine in the city. “In a realm where Greek food falls often into a standardized set of dishes (souvlaki, moussaka, kleftiko, et ceterea), Selene offers a thoughtful yet paralleled twist on traditional,” noted one judge. Don’t overlook the oyster mushroom souvlaki—with pickles, tarragon vinegar and walnut skordalia—it’s even better than the classic.

Silver: Nammos

Sister restaurant Nammos takes home silver: its attention to fine-source ingredients brings elevated focus to classic Greek dishes. It’s all made for sharing here—all the better to revel in warm Greek hospitality around ample plates of tender lamb with gigante beans, crispy calamari with beautifully spiced yogurt and a lovely Greek salad with barrel-aged feta.

Bronze: Como Taperia

Bronze goes to the always-lively Como Taperia, where the excellent house vermut flows on tap and the tortilla (don’t skimp on the Manchego cream sauce) is made for long nights and great conversation with friends.
