I tried a Blackheath family-run restaurant serving Mediterranean food – and it’s somewhere not to be ignored.
Open for just more than a year now, Blackheath House is housed in the former Copper & Ink, serving a menu of both English and Mediterranean dishes.
This dog-friendly restaurant has a varied cocktail menu alongside regular live music nights and other events.

At its core, Blackheath House leans heavily into the growing demand for extended brunch. The daytime menu is particularly strong, offering everything from traditional full English breakfasts to lighter Mediterranean-inspired plates.
Alongside dishes such as avocado on toast with poached eggs, hot honey halloumi, and a generous Mediterranean breakfast featuring sucuk, feta and flatbread.
But on this occasion, I was there for dinner after the restaurant launched a new seasonal menu with a strong focus on Mediterranean dishes.

We began with a selection of small plates, which can be had as a starter or if you want to go down a tapas route with cocktails and friends.
The halloumi fries came perfectly battered and were served with a sweet chilli sauce, and ended up being one of my favourites.
Alongside that, the padrón peppers offered something more traditional, a simple Spanish-style dish done well, lightly blistered and seasoned. The arancini were really flavoursome, while the scallops also delivered plenty of flavour.

Moving on to the mains, it quickly became clear that this was a menu built around generous portions and bold tastes.
The harissa chicken stood out as a real highlight and the kind of dish I’d describe as Mediterranean comfort food, packed with warmth and spice and served with seasonal vegetables that made it feel hearty without being too heavy.
The scallop risotto, on the other hand, leaned more contemporary compared to others I’ve tried, with a lighter palette of flavours.
The lamb chops delivered a classic, satisfying option, cooked well and full of flavour, completing a trio of mains that each brought something different to the table.
To drink, we opted for cocktails, which didn’t disappoint. The Porn Star Martini was exactly what you would expect, sweet and sharp, but it was the English Country Garden that really stood out and was light and refreshing.
Overall, if you are looking for a chilled spot to eat for brunch or dinner in Blackheath, Blackheath House is one not to ignore.
