The Italian-American Club Spaghetti Dinner is on Wednesday at the American Legion on Grant Avenue.

The Italian-American Club of Duluth is hosting its annual spaghetti dinner this Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the American Legion on Grand Avenue.

The club is also marking its 50th anniversary.

Mike Talarico shared that the club prepped 3,600 meatballs on Saturday and made 14 gallons of sauce for the event. Adult tickets are $10 and kids 12 and under eat for $5.

“We use those funds to not only take care of the expenses of the club, but it also can add to our funds for scholarship, which is an annual thing that we do,” Talarico said. “Four or five scholarships every year.”

He explained that the dinner includes a plate of spaghetti, a couple of meatballs, a breadstick and a salad. Everything is prepared by club members.

“It’s kind of a tradition across the country, really, is that Italian-American clubs, like any other immigrant clubs, they came to the country, they were lost in the language and the new ways of this new world, and they would join up together so that they could share their experiences and learn about things and still have the family feel from the old country,” Talarico said.

Tickets can be purchased at the door, and Talarico said the club usually serves 900 to 1,000 people at the event.
