Diners in South Tyneside have been left gutted following the news that a much loved Italian restaurant has closed for good after seven years of serving the local community. And its owners of Tino’s in Jarrow have said that there are a ‘number of factors’ behind their sad decision.
Sadly, and as you’ll be aware of, if you’re a regular reader of ChronicleLive, there are many businesses in the hospitality sector going through an incredibly tough time of things, with a startling number of closures in the last few months, notable examples being Point Blank in Newcastle city centre, SIX on the roof of the BALTIC in Gateshead and Pranzo in Whitley Bay.
And now there’s another one to add to the list, with the announcement that Tino’s in Jarrow has shut down permanently and with immediate effect. The sad news came via a post on the Tino’s Facebook page on Monday evening, with the statement from management reading: ‘Dear customers unfortunately due to many factors our restaurant is now closed permanently. We’d like to thank every customer and staff member for all the support over the last 7 years. Thank you and we wish you all the best.’

The reaction to the post spoke volumes on just how loved Tino’s is by Jarrow residents, with many of people quick to express their upset over the move and support for the owners. Within hours of the news being broken there were well over 200 comments on the post, with one regular replying: ‘Absolutely gutted, brilliant restaurant fabulous food and great staff. Never had a bad meal in there and your Sunday roast dinners are the best. Sorry to see you go.’
Echoing those sentiments, a second reacted: ‘Ah gutted! We’ve had so many family meals here and never a bad one! Always a go to for a lovely Sunday lunch for us. My kids are going to miss your sticky toffee pudding! All the best for your next venture.’ as a third wrote: ‘Oh no, that’s so sad, we’ve always loved visiting your restaurant. Please let us know if you ever open up elsewhere..’
