Hello everyone and happy Sunday! Here’s another scan
This is *breathes in* Home Town Recipes of Grand Mound Fire Department & Friends. Definitely a long title
The first thing I noticed was the lovely cookbook grab bag promotion at the start of the book which grants you 40 cookbooks for 60 dollars which is just absolutely insane because the bookstore that’s become the oasis for my collection charges me about that much just 10 books. Too bad the promotion no longer exists because I would love a giant haul
But what does still exist is the recipes, and with a combined total of only 48 pages there’s not a lot of them to browse. I think this time I’ll let you be the judge on whether or not the recipes are exciting or not. Off the bat I can point out some recipes I haven’t seen before, like the Sweet and Sour Carrots
Really quick though, I don’t usually comment on the ads that are in these books but I’m so curious about Royal Mobile Homes. Just what did the previous owner do that made them have to declare that they have no connection with the previous owner? I desperately want to know the lore
There’s a “meatless” section in this book which I always find interesting because not every community cookbook has a dedicated section to it
I also love the inclusion of the Super Store Bought Burrito. I’ll have to think back to which one but I have a community cookbook where one of the recipes quite literally tells you to just go to Subway. Sometimes cooking is too much
My sweet tooth definitely wants to try the Chocolate Bars recipe, especially since it uses cake mix which is so convenient. Can’t really say the same for the Chocolate Kraut Cake. I feel like if I didn’t know it was in there I’d survive but I don’t know if I have the willpower to knowingly open a jar of sauerkraut and add it to cake batter. The Easy Donuts sound amazing though
I tried including a lot of pictures for your guys’ viewing convenience. I’m always interested to see which ones people talk about the most and which ones earn a 🤨
Also, it’s been making me really happy lately to see people trying out some of these recipes! These recipes are fun to look at naturally, but they’re also made to be used as well. There’s a few that I wanna try myself when I get some motivation. Not only are we preserving these recipes, we’re also seeing how well they hold up by today’s standards!
Thank you for stopping by. See you next scan ✨️

Next upload isn’t going to be shared with you guys 😶
…That’s because it’s a cookbook from 2005, and I think I would definitely cause some riots posting about it on this sub. It’s still a cool one though. It’s an apple orchard community cookbook, and the gimmick is that every recipe has apples in it, and they even give you suggestions on the variety of apples, like a sommelier with wine
You guys already know where to find my archive profile and my pinned post for my uploads, so you can still check it out if you’d like when I drop it on Tuesday/Wednesday
Next upload for this sub specifically will likely be Thursday/Friday. It’s called “The 99¢ Upset Stomach”, and the recipes were submitted by Sunday School kids, which means a lot of homemade family cooking nostalgia. I’m confident a lot of you guys will love it
Sauerkraut cake is good. The sauerkraut gives it moisture, like zucchini, and deepens the chocolate flavour. It needs to be rinsed well and finely chopped.
Cottage Cheese Roast sounds so unusual that I might have to try it. I’ve never seen a recipe like that before.

I have made the recipe for Chocolate Bars before. It is really good! My mom used it make it frequently although she called it Chocolate Caramel Brownies. I made it a few times but unwrapping all those caramels is a pain, so I started using a good, thick caramel sauce instead.
Growing up my Mom would make the doughnuts about once a month. (The biscuits were 10 cans for $1.00 😃) She used the small round bouillon tins to cut the holes for the doughnuts. I love that this recipe says to use the lid of a lipstick tube. So fun!
Thank you for sharing. This recipe brought back great memories.
