As frozen treat season ramps up across the GTA, a growing gelato brand known for its handcrafted flavours has opened a new location in Whitby.
Nani’s Gelato, located at 370 Taunton Rd. E. officially celebrated the grand opening of their newest spot on April 30.
According to the company, the brand’s roots are inspired by family and traditional homemade desserts. In many South Asian languages, “Nani” means grandmother, with the shop blending Asian, Indian and Italian-inspired flavours while focusing on handcrafted gelato made in-house using fresh ingredients.
The business was founded by Parry, who began formal frozen dessert training in 2018, including studies at the University of Wisconsin’s Ice Cream Short Course and training alongside an Italian artisanal gelato maker in the U.S.
The company later went from a custom gelato food truck in downtown Toronto into storefront locations and a large-scale production facility in Mississauga before launching franchise expansion across Canada.
Menu offerings include gelato bars, gelato sandwiches, gelato scoops, milkshakes, soft serve, gelato cakes and gelato pies.
Customers can also choose from flavours such as Mango Lychee Sorbetto, Vegan Dark Chocolate, Hazelnut Rocher, Oreo Cookies & Cream, Pistachio, Saffron Cardamom Kulfi, Salted Caramel, Salted Dark Chocolate Chip and Strawberry.
Soft serve options include Biscoff and Vanilla Bean, while specialty desserts include Lotus Biscoff sundaes, affogatos and mango lassi drinks.
Nani’s Gelato now operates 14 locations across Ontario, along with one location in Alberta and another in British Columbia.
Operating hours for the Whitby location are Sunday from 12 p.m. to 11 p.m., Monday through Thursday from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 12 p.m. to 12 a.m.
