New Hamilton restaurant will open in former Italian spot Caro

A new restaurant is preparing to open on James Street North in Hamilton.

The James Public Eatery will be opening soon at 229 James Street North and taking over the space that most recently held modern Italian restaurant Caro, which unceremoniously closed its doors in late 2025 after a termination of their lease.

This new restaurant is keeping details vague for the time being, but the name alone suggests that this could be a spot for pub-style comfort foods like sandwiches, salads, share plates and more.

Until those details are released, The James Public Eatery has launched a website where curious locals can sign up to be first to know when this new Hamilton restaurant plans to open its doors.
