
I picked up a notebook that someone hand wrote 10 pages of recipes. Most of it I was able to decipher but there are a few things I could use some help on. I have included a scan of the fifth page and here is the text I got; (the asterisk's are the parts I couldn't make out!!!)
Rich Wedding Cake (****)
3 lbs flour – 3 lbs sugar – 3 lbs butter – 28 eggs – 6 lbs currants – 6 lbs raisins – 1 lb citron – 3 oz cloves – 1 oz cinnamon – 1 oz nutmeg – 1/2 oz mace – 2 glasses of brandy – 2 glasses wine – 2 glasses of rosewater – 1 cup molasses – 1 teaspoonful soda
***** Cake (****)
9 cups flour – 6 cups sugar – 1 cup milk – 4 cups raisins – 3 cups butter – 6 eggs – 1 nutmeg – 1 teaspoonful soda – spices to taste
Fruit Cake ("**** good!")
1 lb sugar – 1 lb butter – 1 lb flour – 10 eggs – 3 lbs currants – 3 lbs raisins – 1 lb citron – all kinds of spices – 1/2 cup sour milk **** into a glass of brandy – teaspoonful of soda – 1/2 cup molasses

Missing word in the third recipe is “strain”. The rest of it is a complete mystery.
That wedding-cake recipe sounds great, a classic pound cake full of fruit, they way they used to make them. Seems like kind of a lot of rosewater, which can make things taste soapy, but I guess it’d be drowned out by all that spice (three ounces of cloves!).
28 eggs. I don’t know why but even reading 3 pounds flour still makes my eyebrows RISE 🤣
