GM’s Flint Assembly just built its 16-millionth vehicle — a metallic blue Chevy Silverado

The longest-running General Motors assembly plant in North America hit a new milestone this month — the 16-millionth vehicle produced by employees at Flint Assembly.

The metallic blue Chevrolet Silverado 2500 crew cab rolled off the final assembly line on March 16, GM said in a news release.

The truck was powered by the 3.5 millionth Duramax diesel engine produced at DMAX. It was delivered on March 16 to its buyer, Andy Sanford, who was present as the vehicle crossed the final assembly line.

“Seeing my own Chevy put through its paces was surreal,” Sanford said in a statement released by the company. “This was like getting a backstage pass to a special moment. I come from a GM family, and while we have had other vehicles, they’ve been nothing like my truck. I love the reliability and durability.”

MEDC writes off $2.5M loan for project that aimed to sell Flint-made parts to Tesla

The state has written off a $2.5 million loan made nearly a decade ago to a company that planned to transform plastic from Flint water bottles into auto parts for Tesla Motors.

The Michigan Strategic Fund board took the unusual step of writing off the loan to C3 Venture Flint, a limited liability company that promised to invest nearly $10 million in its Flint operations and to create 380 jobs.

The Michigan Economic Development Corp. recommended the write-off, an action approved by the MSF board on March 24 after the state Department of Attorney General said the C3 loan was uncollectable.

The status of C3 was not immediately clear on March 24. The company was founded by former chairman and Michigan resident Bob Schaffer and last filed an annual corporate organization report with the state in 2020.
