“Yoko Ono: Music of the Mind”: The artist’s celebrated Wish Trees are currently gracing the olive trees growing in the Broad Museum’s East West Bank Plaza, while, inside, thought-provoking installations invite contemplation, and, on occasion, participation. This is Ms. Ono’s “… first solo museum exhibition in Southern California,” and it will remain on view through Oct. 11, 2026. Be sure to share your own wish at the ethereal trees, “a living expression of hope in Los Angeles.”

Marilyn Monroe: Hollywood Icon: From “Some Like It Hot” to “How to Marry a Millionaire,” the legendary performer has captivated audiences of several eras with her wit, her gravitas, her comedic timing, her presence, and her enduring power. The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures will honor Ms. Monroe’s incredible cinematic legacy through a treasure-packed exhibition; see it through Feb. 28, 2027. The show opens May 31, a day before the 100th anniversary of the luminary’s birth.

Downtown Burbank Summer Arts Festival: We do love a pay-nothing, multi-booth art festival that takes up a good chunk of a good downtown, and the event coming up May 30 and 31, the festivity unfurling along San Fernando Boulevard, definitely qualifies. Over 170 artists and craftspeople are set to be there, with other diversions adding to the upbeat air. Be sure to check out the Richard Orlinksi sculptures, on view through July 21, while strolling through the colorful fun.

Summer 2026 Wine Nights: Winding down with an excellent glass of vino while you savor the changing sky, the end-of-day vibes, the Hollywood Sign in the distance, and the bustling, murmuring, joyful sense of communal gather-togetherness? It’s one of the many reasons people adore the warm-weather wine series at Barnsdall Art Park. These nights are 21-plus only and do book up rather quickly, but there are several to go through early September, starting May 29. Cheers!

Golden Hour: Music in the Garden: The Norton Simon Museum’s serene Sculpture Garden recently enjoyed a major refurbishment; now visitors are basking in its beauty while calling upon the Colorado Boulevard institution. This special May 29 event, which is included with museum admission, adds live music and the chance to sketch to that sweet serenity. There will be three more Golden Hour gatherings this summer, nice.

Kidspace Neighborhood Block Party: The Rose Bowl-close children’s museum is opening for a free May 31 celebration, one that that will include several adorable activities (like the chance for little ones to ride a trike across a small Golden Gate Bridge). The Arroyo Stream will be open, too, for cool-down play. Before you go, though? Be sure to RSVP, as this Pasadena family festivity will be a popular must-do.
