The French husband and wife team behind Downtown’s revived Globe Theatre and Santa Monica’s LouLou launch a lively new restaurant

French husband and wife team Erik and Florence Chol — who revived Downtown L.A.’s 117-year-old Globe Theatre and opened LouLou in Santa Monica in July 2022 — are behind another spirited Los Angeles venture.

The duo have transformed the former Tatel space on Canon Drive into a lively restaurant infused with the flavor of the French Riviera. After soft opening in late March, Azur Beverly Hills hosted a grand ribbon cutting celebration on April 22 with the Beverly Hills Chamber of Commerce, Mayor Craig A. Corman and members of the community.

The festive venue received a makeover and now boasts a convivial patio and vibrant indoor dining room replete with natural textures and materials — not to mention lively entertainment. Amid live singers, dancers, a harpist and more, diners can enjoy a French-Mediterranean menu designed by executive chef Stanley Suchy and French chef Éric Cuenin rooted in wood-fire cooking, coastal seafood and seasonal produce.

Start with warm freshly baked breads, then move on to the Socca — a distinct French Niçoise chickpea crêpe, served with roasted bell pepper dip and olive tapenade. Oysters and caviar are on offer, as are other popular starters like Mediterranean octopus and beef tartare. Salads include the burrata with tomato tartare and pistachio, and the salad Niçoise with seared tuna; and among the daily-made pastas are a spaghettini au Homard with poached lobster and a gigli with truffles.

The poitrine de poulet is a memorable take on chicken, with a walnut and herb crust; a filet mignon comes with green peppercorn sauce; and seafood fans can opt for a sea bass filet. Finish with a lavender creme brulee or profiteroles finished table-side with dark chocolate.

Dishes can be paired with creative cocktails (from the Azur vodka creation to the Divin spicy tequila drink), French wines and, of course, Champagne — plus Azur’s celebratory European vibe.

Launching this week, a Riviera Brunch every Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. takes inspiration from the Côte d’Azur, and a sunny spirited Les Dejeuners lunch is offered every Monday from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
