“Spitz will be a welcome addition to the Park Road neighborhood and restore a key restaurant space with an exciting concept,” said Kristen Gorski, West Hartford’s economic development coordinator. “Owners Paige and Nick Chamberlain dove in headfirst engaging with the local community early on and, with their passion for the business, will quickly establish themselves as the go-to spot.”
Serving Mediterranean-style street food, including gyros, wraps, salads, wings and more, the restaurant will be open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays from and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, said Paige Chamberlain, who co-owns Spitz Mediterranean Street Food with her husband Nick.
Spitz’s namesake refers to its method of broiling meats on a vertical spinning rotisserie, which Chamberlain said the restaurant will have at the back of its space. In addition to halal-certified beef, chicken and lamb, she said there will be vegetarian and vegan options as well as a children’s menu. While the restaurant is “a fast casual concept to its core,” Chamberlain said customers can order at the counter and receive table service.
As recent West Hartford residents, Chamberlain said she and her husband both grew up in Simsbury and love the Hartford area. She said her career has been focused on hospitality while her husband has a background in finance and business.
“This will be the first (Spitz) location on the East Coast,” Chamberlain said. “Nick’s family owns a few locations in Utah, and they just love and adore the Spitz family and the Spitz community and just put the bug in our ear.”
Spitz Mediterranean Street Food currently has multiple locations across the United States, including in Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Minnesota, Montana, Oregon, Texas and Utah, according to the restaurant’s website.
“Nick and I always wanted to open something of our own, so this was brought to us as the perfect opportunity,” she said. “It’s an existing model and restaurant that is just hugely successful, hugely popular, and I think there’s really nothing like it here in West Hartford … It’s just a fun amazing concept.”
Chamberlain said it felt good to give the former Plan B restaurant space “some new life” and they inherited the former restaurant’s full bar. She said they are applying for their liquor license to offer craft beer, sangria, wines and spirits.
