I couldn’t believe this. They posted their veggie option is fried falafel balls. I read comments and learn from other people that they exclusively fry in beef tallow. I was vegetarian for 19 years and have transitioned to pescatarian but either way that doesn’t work for my diet.

Lol no. Fried in a shared fryer is one thing but not a chance I’m eating something fried in tallow. That’s not vegetarian anymore.

Yeah… I don’t think they understand what vegetarian means if they think beef tallow can be vegetarian

It’s funny to me people don’t think of oil as food when it’s often the majority of calories in fried food. When I eat french fries in my mind I’m ontologically eating oil more than I am eating potatoes.

I hate this. A restaurant in my hometown had a similar response after people pointed out that their “vegetarian” options were made with chicken broth -.- like just don’t label it as vegetarian then!

That’s a shame, but at least those don’t even look that good. I had much better falafel for lunch today.

At one of my old kitchen jobs we made the “vegan” beyond burgers with regular cheese and aioli and the mac and cheese sauce had chicken stock in it. The head chef gave zero shits about actual plant-based options and was willing to lie to customers. It was fine dining so this guy had his head way far up his ass. I hated that job. I was actively suicidal there.

I don’t necessarily think of “veggie option” as vegetarian.

This is why you can never trust fried foods out. Frying in tallow is becoming such a trend. My partner and I used to like getting the cauliflower wings at Buffalo Wild Wings until we found out it was fried in tallow! Most joints are now advertising fries fried in tallow too. I also just this year realized that refried beans and rice at Mexican restaurants aren’t vegetarian either and that broke my heart because I LOVE beans and rice. That’s like, the basis for a vegetarian burrito! Ugh

  9. Why would you even want falafel deep fried in beef tallow, so gross lol.

  10. Was it labeled as a “veggie“ option or “vegetarian” option. If labeled “veggie” I think it’s okay and if you want vegetarian you ask more questions. (edit because of typo)

  11. Lol. It’s like “veggie” pad thai or Vietnamese pho prepared with fish sauce.

They’ve not really thought it through.

I would like your vegetarian beef ribs with a side of beans with vegetarian pork

Their mistake was going to a non-vegetarian and expecting a dish labeled as vegetarian to be vegetarian. Since when do ppl who sell a product/service say the truth about said product/service ?

Not only does it suck for vegs, but some religious folk and then there are people like my stepmom who got bit by one of those ticks and she has alpha gal syndrome now and can’t even have a veg burger that was cooked on the same grill as something with red meat or she will have a reaction!

I understand. I ate at a place every week for years until I learned that literally everything was cooked in lard. 🤮

I have alpha gal and the number of places frying in beef tallow unnecessarily is too damn high.
