Chocolates with undeclared walnut ingredient recalled in Connecticut, other states

CONNECTICUT, USA — A labeling error on chocolates containing walnut ingredients has prompted a recall in most states, including Connecticut, according to the FDA.

French Broad Chocolates announced Thursday that it is recalling certain Bette’s Bake Sale Bonbon Collection products in Connecticut, as well as 40 other U.S. states, because of undeclared walnuts.

The Walnut Fudge bonbon was incorrectly identified in the tasting notes with the product, and was switched with the Peach Cobbler bonbons in the guide. The FDA says this error could lead to someone mistakenly eating a piece containing walnuts.

The affected products, distributed between April 14 and April 20, are below:

The items were packaged in paper boxes and sold in French Broad Chocolates retail stores in Asheville, N.C., as well as online at frenchbroadchocolates.com. They were sold to Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Vermont, Washington, Wisconsin and West Virginia.

Consumers who have bought the product with a tree nut allergy are advised to throw the bonbons away or bring them back to the place of purchase for a refund.
