Weekday indulgence in the form of a long lunch by the beach just became a whole lot more tempting, with Ocean Bar + Kitchen unveiling a new premium lunch offering that comes without the premium price tag.
The Henley Beach favourite has launched its new Espresso 3 Course Lunch Menu, a shared dining experience available Monday to Friday from 11:30am to 2:30pm for just $40 per person. And yes, it includes pasta, coffee and stunning ocean views.
Located above the Henley Beach Surf Life Saving Club, Ocean Bar + Kitchen has become known for its coastal dining experience, which pairs modern Italian-inspired food and fresh seafood with a relaxed Mediterranean atmosphere. Now, the team is leaning into the idea that dining out shouldn’t be reserved purely for birthdays and special occasions.
“Dining out shouldn’t be reserved for special occasions,” shared Co-Owner and Executive Chef Adam Swanson. “We wanted to create something that gives people access to quality restaurant food, beautiful ocean views and great hospitality at a price point that feels achievable during the week.”
“Italian food is all about generosity, sharing and bringing people together. This menu captures that spirit while showcasing some of our favourite dishes. Winter is comfort-food season, and there’s something pretty special about enjoying a bowl of baked gnocchi while watching the waves roll in at Henley Beach.”
The new lunch menu has been intentionally designed as a generous weekday offering, ideal for everyone from business lunches and casual catch-ups to retirees, locals and beachside midweek escapes.
The three-course menu begins with a selection of Ocean favourites to share, including ricotta dip with Calabrese bomba sugo, basil, crispy shallots and pasta fritta, alongside calamari fritti served with parsley, aioli and lemon.
Guests then choose between two comforting handmade pasta dishes, the baked Gnocchi Sorrentina with Napoli sugo, basil and buffalo mozzarella, or Mezze Maniche alla Vodka with nduja, tomato, vodka, cream and chives.
To finish, there’s espresso coffee, a small but very Italian ending to a leisurely seaside lunch.
According to co-owner Josh Harkin, the offering was inspired partly by rising cost-of-living pressures and a desire to make beachside dining more accessible year-round.
“We’re incredibly fortunate to operate in one of South Australia’s most iconic beachfront locations,” shared Ocean Co-Owner Josh Harkin. “The Espresso Lunch Menu is about giving locals another reason to enjoy Henley Beach during the week and making great dining more accessible.
“People often think of beachside dining as a summer activity, but winter has its own magic. Sitting above the ocean with a warm meal and a coffee while watching the winter swells roll through is one of the best experiences on the coast. We wanted to create an offering that encourages people to enjoy the beach all year round.”
The Espresso Lunch Menu joins several other midweek specials currently running at Ocean, including Wednesday night bottomless pasta from 5pm for $45 per person and Thursday schnitzel nights featuring a chicken schnitty paired with a pint of Coopers or a glass of house wine for $35.
For anyone needing a reason to swap the desk lunch for something a little more scenic, this might be it.
