SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A local San Diego pizza restaurant was just named one of the best pizzerias in the U.S., according to the Italian 50 Top Pizza guide.

The guide, which is released every year, is the “world’s first and most influential guide in the sector” according to its website.

Tribute Pizza, located in North Park, made number 34 on the list of 50 pizzerias across the country. The pizza restaurant opened in the old North Park Post Office in 2016.

It’s earned accolades since then — landing on the 50 Top Pizza list four previous times as well as on San Diego Magazine’s Best Pizza in San Diego list and Thrillest’s Best Pizzerias in America.

The restaurant started as a mobile wood-fired pop-up before it set up a permanent shop. The menu is updated frequently and takes inspiration from the North Park Farmer’s Market just a block away every Thursday.

The pizzeria serves a “Neo-Neopolitan” style of pizza, which it says on its website is a hybrid of New York and Neapolitan techniques. It also uses 100% North American-grown and milled organic bread flour, California-grown tomatoes and local produce.

Some of the items currently on the menu include a lady diavola pizza with crushed tomatoes, salami, calabrian chile, pepperoni, mozzarella, and sharp smoked provolone as well as a margherita pizza.

The restaurant is located at 3077 North Park Way and is open Tuesday to Sunday.
