Mediterranean Restaurant Silk Route closes
Last week, Mediterranean restaurant and lounge Silk Route announced its closure on Instagram, less than a year after its grand opening. Maebelle Alolong, who also owns The Narra Tree, remarked in the post that she had been “hoping for some sort of miracle.”
“Sometimes, we need to close some doors and move on. Not because we can’t make it work (my trojan horse is always make it work), but because some situations eventually show us we can’t continue, especially if it costs our peace, our wellbeing,” Alolong said in the post. “Silk Route was a product of blood and sweat. Building it by hand, creating it with our soul.”
The restaurant was described to have crafted a dining experience to transport patrons along the trade routes where Mediterranean and Asian cultures collide. It officially opened July 18, 2025.

Olympia Cafe will not reopen its doors
Last week the City of Savannah announced they planned to reopen a competitive bid process to lease the commercial space that was home to The Olympia Cafe at 5 E. River St. Olympia chose to not execute a new lease it was awarded last year, meaning the space can now be leased to a tenant other than Olympia for the first time since the 1990s.
Issues related to the unresolved ownership after the death of the beloved restaurant’s longtime owner Nick Pappas last year led to the new lease not being executed, according to reporting by the Savannah Morning News.
