Okay y’all… my 15-year-old, who eats absolutely nothing, said these are the best thing I’ve ever made. 🤣🥹
Recipe ⬇️
🥐 Monte Cristo Puff Pastry Pinwheels
Ingredients
* 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
* 2–3 tbsp strawberry habanero jam
* 6–8 oz shaved deli ham
* 1 cup shredded Gruyère or Swiss cheese
* ½ cup shredded mozzarella
* 1 egg
* 1 tbsp milk
* Pinch of salt
* Powdered sugar, for serving
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 400°F.
2. Roll puff pastry into a rectangle about ⅛-inch thick.
3. Warm the jam for about 15 seconds in the microwave. Using a silicone pastry brush, brush a VERY THIN layer of jam over the pastry, leaving a ½-inch border along the far edge.
4. Sprinkle half the cheese over the pastry. Layer the shaved ham evenly across the surface. Top with the remaining cheese.
5. Starting from the long edge, roll the pastry tightly into a log.
6. Refrigerate for 10 minutes, then transfer to the freezer for 5 minutes.
7. Using a serrated bread knife, slice into 1 to 1½-inch pinwheels.
8. Place pinwheels on a parchment-lined baking sheet with the prettiest spiral facing up.
9. Whisk together the egg, milk, and salt. Brush the tops lightly with egg wash.
10. Bake for 20–25 minutes, until golden brown and flaky.
11. Cool for 3–5 minutes. Dust lightly with powdered sugar and serve with extra strawberry habanero jam on the side.
Tips:
* Pat the ham dry before assembling.
* Less jam is better than more. Think glaze, not spread.
* Rolling from the long edge gives you the prettiest spirals.
* The fridge + freezer step helps keep the spirals tight and clean.
