I moved to Vancouver and noticed that green beans were seldom sold at grocery stores. So when I saw the seeds in my local discount shop I thought, why not? A pot that fits on my scooter and a bag of potting soil later…
I did not expect them to actually sprout, grow and now they're making beans!
The leaves have suffered. They're being eaten by flies, gnats, my cat, and some sort of white fuzz but still grow like I'm not the world's worst plant parent. I trim the dead leaves from the stalks and even put some chili powder in their water to try and make the bugs (and my cat) not interested. Somehow these plants thrive and have about 10 stalks with growing foliage.
This is my tiny porch in the city so I'm not sure if it is just pure luck that they're not dying or I picked a hardy species.
My questions are: Should I replant some in separate smaller pots? How often do I really need to water them? Am I doomed to fail no matter what?
I came into this not thinking they'd survive past sprouts and here we are. Any and all advice is welcome. I am naming this one Hulk because my dog tried to eat the soil, my cat tried to eat the leaves and my anxious butt won't stop touching it but the plant still LIVES! The fact that its green beans grow with little purple pants is an amazing coincidence LOL

If you have more seeds I would just plant more instead of moving these. I imagine you’d still have plenty of time since bush beans tend to mature in 60 days or less. Also suggestion for next time would be to fill this planter with more soil. Watering schedule is tough to say because it depends on your conditions. Best thing to do is just check the soil a few times a week, if the top 1-2 inches is dry then water. If still damp don’t water. Id guess watering 2-3 times a week would be right because there’s not much soil there but again depends how hot and dry it is there.
