A Huddersfield restaurant has a new owner and is set to reopen the new-look premises following a nine-day refurbishment.
Italian restaurant Primo on Viaduct Street in Huddersfield town centre closed on Saturday and will be back open on Thursday, October 30, following a major revamp and rebrand.
Its new owner is Huddersfield man Ben Craven, 28, who has ambitious plans to put Huddersfield town centre firmly on the map for Italian dining. He has been visiting the restaurant for many years and it has been one of his favourite places.
Local entrepreneur Ben has taken the reins and says he is “evolving the restaurant into a modern yet authentic destination that combines beloved classics with exciting new creations.”
The interior is undergoing a full transformation to create a “sophisticated but welcoming space,” Ben added. Former Primo owner Mario Ozorio will remain and will look after the food side of things.
Diners can expect to see lasagne alongside new dishes such as Spianata and Hot Honey Pizza, Slow-Braised Short Rib Ragu, and Nduja and Mozzarella Arancini, as well as Giant Mozzarella Sticks. Ben has focused on creating an impressive Italian wine list, “celebrating vineyards from Piedmont to Puglia.” Speaking about the relaunch, Ben said: “This is a really exciting time.
“I’ve visited Primo since I was a child and to now have the opportunity to completely refurbish and elevate the brand is an honour.
“We’re bringing Huddersfield a new dining experience in keeping with the levels of service and food that people expect, and I’m really looking forward to welcoming guests old and new.”
The relaunch is a boost for Huddersfield’s hospitality scene, which has faced significant challenges in recent years. Ben added: “The investment demonstrates confidence in the town’s future and a commitment to providing residents and visitors with high-quality, independent dining experiences.”
