NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — To celebrate New Orleans Restaurant Week, we headed to Brutto Americano in the Barnett Hotel in the Warehouse District to see what Chef Trey Williams is cooking up.
“We cook Italian food, Italian grandmother food, but we cook it with ingredients that are mostly grown around here,” Williams said.
Brutto Americano is offering a special three-course meal for $32 for Restaurant Week.
“With Course One, you’ll get a choice of three small plates, our take on a Caesar salad, which has an anchovy dressing with buttermilk folded into it. We mostly use bitter greens, but also romaine to balance it out, and we’ve got Louisiana citrus in there,” he said.
Other small plate dishes include a rabbit cacciatore dish, and special gulf fish brandade dish.

As for the entrées, one of the choices is lasagna.
“We rub pulled pork shoulder with roasted garlic, and then roast it, and braise it in tomato. One layer is stewed greens, and we use collared greens and mustard greens and we stew them with pepper vinegar,” Williams said.
“Our next option for an entrée is grilled gulf fish, the fish is grilled and then glazed with a red onion glaze, and plated over with shellfish,” he said.

“The final option for entrées is a roasted duck breast, and it is plated with earthy greens,” he said.
“Then for dessert, we do a tiramisu, but we do it in the style of bananas foster with a banana on top,” he said.
“These are all brand new dishes and that’s why we’d like to get folks in the door for Restaurant Week to try our new stuff,” Williams said.
Every Friday night, there’s live jazz music in Brutto Americano, and when you’re done eating, you can head over their jazz music club, “Good Measure.”
