France’s food trade surplus collapsed 96% last year, dealing a historic blow to the country’s standing as a European agricultural powerhouse.
The trade balance fell to €200 million ($236 million), from €4.9 billion in 2024, according to the National Center for the Promotion of Agricultural and Food Products. Imports climbed 8.4%, outpacing a 2.1% increase in exports.
