TULSA, Okla. — A shooting at a food mart on East Mohawk Boulevard has left one man injured.
Tulsa Police Department officers were called to the scene of the shooting at 205 E. Mohawk Boulevard around 8:15 a.m.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found a man near a dumpster with a gunshot wound to his hip.
Officers watched surveillance and talked to the store clerk. According to them, a man entered Naife’s Food Mart and requested someone the store clerk did not know, then left the store before returning with a machete.
The clerk told officers the suspect went behind the counter and attacked him with the machete, hitting him in the shoulder.
The store clerk fired one shot, striking the suspect in the hip who then fled the store. The clerk then called 911.
“As it seems right now, it seems like it is self-defense,” says Andre Baul, officer with TPD.
The suspect was taken to the hospital. Police say his injuries appear to be non-life threatening. Police say the suspect is expected to be booked into the Tulsa County Jail for assault with a deadly weapon when he is medically cleared.
