According to British media, Maya Manchester restaurant has been out of service since May 29, 2026. In a notice posted on social networks, this unit said that the closure decision was made after careful consideration, as the business environment for independent brands in the restaurant – hotel sector is becoming increasingly difficult and unsustainable.

Maya Manchester opened in 2024 in the Gay Village of Manchester. The restaurant quickly attracted attention thanks to a menu inspired by classic French cuisine combined with modern style under the guidance of chef Gabe Lea.

Prior to that, he worked at Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons – a famous Michelin-starred restaurant in Oxfordshire, as well as Northcote – a Michelin-starred restaurant in Lancashire.

Only after a short period of operation, Maya Manchester was included in the Michelin Guide’s suggestion list thanks to its culinary quality and service style. According to local media, the restaurant was recognized in the Michelin Guide just a few months after opening.

In the farewell announcement to diners, the restaurant representative said that although positive signs have been recorded recently, the prospects for small and independent businesses in the food service industry are still increasingly difficult, making the current model no longer financially feasible. The unit’s immediate priority is to support employees and ensure the rights of all employees.

Maya Manchester’s closure takes place in the context that many high-end restaurants in the UK are under pressure from sharply increased operating costs.

According to the Guardian, the UK’s high-end food industry is going through a difficult period with a series of Michelin-recognized establishments having to close or shrink their scale due to increased costs of food, energy, labor and taxes and fees.

Experts believe that the wave of closures of famous restaurants is posing a major challenge to the British food service industry, which has been considered one of the bright spots of the world culinary map for many years.
