rest in peace to a real pioneer. people like her made it possible for so many others to follow, especially women in an industry that wasn’t exactly welcoming them with open arms back then. california sparkling wine owes her a lot
her work with methode champenoise in napa when most people were dismissing california sparkling as a novelty was something else. spent time at domaine chandon early on and saw firsthand how she pushed the envelope on technique and quality standards. the wine industry moves slow on change, especially back then, and she didn’t just make great wine, she made people take california seriously in a category where the french had a stranglehold. that matters more than people realize.
