I’ve shared this before, but as we ramp into strawberry season, I thought I’d quickly share it again. Using a metal straw to “pop” the core and the top of your berries is a fast and easy way to get through your strawbs fast as anything.

Bonus: no knife work. You can get the littles involved too!!

Cool! I’ve always used a grapefruit spoon. No knives and not much waste!

Those are some rare finds in today’s world. I remember my grandmother and my mom always had a ton. When I moved out on my own, I found 6 of them at a goodwill for like 50 cents. Then my mom died a few years ago and now I literally have like 2 doz of them. We don’t really even eat grapefruit lol. But I have also found random uses for them. They make a great steak knife in a pinch.

I’ve never taken the core out of a strawberry, just nip the Green leaves off but leave the whole top on. Is coring them something many people do?

I’ve taken to chopping the tops off and reserving them for strawberry syrup. Because it ends up strained, the leaves don’t matter. There’s usually enough fruit left on the tops to get decent flavor for the syrup.

I use my thumbnail to just remove the leaves. It works on very ripe native berries.

Thanks for the tip! Definitely going to try this!
