Leopold’s unveils new ice cream flavor to celebrate Employability anniversary

“Employability Crunch” is now available for a limited time

Dave WilliamsSAVANNAH, Ga. —

A popular Savannah nonprofit is celebrating a major milestone this year, and now it’s getting its own flavor of ice cream from a popular downtown ice cream shop.

Leopold’s Ice Cream has been delighting people for over 100 years in Savannah, serving up its delicious ice cream.

And now they’re teaming up with another longtime Savannah staple, Employability, with the official launch of the new Employability Crunch to help celebrate Employability’s 75th anniversary.

“Stratton and Leopold’s ice cream are one of our large partners, and we are so supportive of them,” said Andrew Cosey, chair of the Employability 75th Anniversary Committee. “And they’re very supportive of us and our participants. And we are very grateful to have this opportunity to have a custom flavor.”

And that custom flavor is a vanilla ice cream base with roasted Georgia pecans and a caramel swirl.

“Kept saying, what can we do?” said Stratton Leopold, owner of Leopold’s Ice Cream. “So we brainstormed and came up with it, and we made a test batch, and we all liked it. So hey, there it is.”

Employability helps adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities find employment and many have found work at Leopold’s, including Javon Kelly, who’s been at Leopold’s for nine years now.

“I love the customers,” said Kelly. “Oh, I love Stratton Leopled. I love my managers. I love my job coaches. I love all my friends and family.”

This new Employability Crunch ice cream will be available for a limited time at Leopold’s, and a portion of the proceeds from the sales of this ice cream will go to support the various causes for Employability. Oh yeah, it’s delicious too.

This is just the beginning of the 75th anniversary celebration for Employability; there will be other events scheduled throughout the year.
