Hi, it’s me: the weird waffler! I’ve been super into my waffle iron lately and have been trying to use it to make low cal, high protein creations!
I have concocted a protein waffle recipe that I’ve been enjoying!
1/3 cup oats: 100 calories, 4 grams protein
1/3 cup egg white: 50 calories, 10 grams protein
1 egg: 72 calories, 6 grams protein
1/3 cup Greek yogurt: 50 calories, 10 grams protein
1 scoop protein powder (I used optimum nutrition gold standard whey in chocolate milkshake flavor): 120 cals, 24 grams protein
Total: 392 calories, 54 grams protein. This makes 2 big waffles in my waffle iron and they’re filling!
OPTIONAL (I usually eat these without the toppings but they def enhance the waffles):
1 tablespoon of sugar free jam: 10 calories
1 tablespoon of maple syrup: 50 calories
FULL DISCLOSURE: I was so excited about these that I froze a batch and brought them into work and microwaved them up for my non dieting coworkers to try. They thawed and reheated beautifully but my colleagues were not impressed and did not like them lol. But for someone who’s been in a calorie deficit for over a year, these are awesome for me personally and I’ve been making them like 3 times a week and liking them a lot! But I guess they’re only good if you’re deprived of real waffles for long enough lol.
If I get braver, I might try a batch with just egg white instead of a whole egg but I have not had the courage yet.
Let me know if you try these and what you think!
