How the hell do they expect me to shop “local”?!

I mean, I don’t know where you’re going to find a brisket for much less than that these days. Even Costco is around $6/lb, and they’ve historically been the cheapest around.

I think brisket was around $9/lb last time I looked at my local grocery store.

Hey, I don’t know how to break this to you, but being able to cook 40 servings of high quality beef when the herd has shrunk to the smallest size in 50+ years is in fact a luxury. I would like it to not be, chicken in every pot and all that, but it is and it’s not like cattle have a short turnaround time like chicken, hogs, ducks, etcetera.

Probably gonna be quite some time before prices go down or wages push up again.

Not “local” enough. I went straight to the farmer. Picked a cow, paid to have it butchered at the local butcher shop. Got 400lbs of beef for $475. 2026 May.

Cuts include full packer brisket, tritip, ribeye, misc steaks, ground beef, pre-made patties, cant remember the rest.

Will do it again next year when I need more.

That thing you took a picture of? I got nearly 150lbs of meat for.

A local to me butcher has choice cryovac brisket for $8.99 lb. Sam’s closest to me choice cryovac is 5.88 lb. Not sure what the difference is, other than volume. When I want a brisket guess where I get it.

Truthfully been doing alot more chicken and pork these days.

How local is this place? Local butchers / meat shops don’t’ always get the best prices due to low quantities unfortunately

You’re paying extra for that CAB sticker too

This isn’t even too bad of a price these days, just average. Costco in CA is like 6.99lb last I checked and I don’t know where i’d get anything cheaper than that.

Things are definitely out of hand in different parts of the country. I have been slowly cleaning out my freezer as I’m getting ready to move but eyeballing some stuff and will restock once it goes on sale. Otherwise I’ll be waiting. Matter of fact, I just saw some tri-tips for $9.99 pound Canadian going on sale this weekend and I’m going to buy several steaks and roasts as I pretty much nailed them on the grill and the smoker so happy with that.

$312 for a single brisket is wild. That CAB premium is no joke, I’ve noticed it creeping up on everything in the case not just beef.

At that point I’d rather drive an hour to a locker plant or order from a ranch online, half the price per pound and you usually get better grading. The grocery store markup on whole packers has gotten rough.

Only upside is breaking it down yourself into point and flat, vac seal what you’re not cooking and you’re set for months of smokes. Still hurts to swat though.

Outside Chicago, found brisket on sale at Kroger tonight for $3.99/lbs. They were decent looking too, not all fat.

Well avoid CAB. My local heb has prime brisket at $6/ LB

I found some corned beef points and flats for $.99 a lb the other week. A grocery store (neimans) was venting their extra frozen stuff from st Patrick’s day. Needless to say I bought all I could find (42lbs for $42). It makes a helluva Reuben
