On Saturday, July 11 and Friday, August 15, Bar Bludorn will transform into a neighborhood Italian restaurant for its Scenes from an Italian Restaurant dinner. Chef Aaron Bludorn’s four-course Italian-American menu is $95 per person and features dishes like antipasti salad, meatballs, chicken and eggplant Parmesan and tiramisu. Guests can also add an all-Italian wine pairing curated by wine director Evan White for $50, enjoy live piano music from Thomas Cokinos and order a two-course children’s menu for $55. Ouisie’s Table, 3939 San Felipe, will host a Caymus Summer Wine Dinner ($120) beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 16. The evening starts with a sparkling wine reception and passed hors d’oeuvres before a four-course menu featuring duck confit crostini, Alaskan halibut, wagyu ribeye and dark chocolate torte, with each course paired with a wine from Napa Valley’s Caymus Vineyards and related labels. Folks are invited to celebrate Bastille Day on Tuesday, July 14 at Brennan’s of Houston, 3300 Smith, with an afternoon and evening of French-inspired food, wine and live music. A French happy hour runs from 2 to 6 p.m. with $10 bites and $5 drinks, followed by a French wine tasting from 6 to 7 p.m. featuring three Loire Valley wines paired with small plates for $38. From 5 to 8 p.m., guests can also enjoy a three-course French dinner with a choice of appetizer, entrée and dessert for $70, with an optional $30 wine pairing. Reservations are recommended.
Downtown’s newest French-inspired café, bakery and garden bar, Petite Lucie, 301 Milam, will officially celebrate its grand opening with a Bastille Day celebration on Tuesday, July 14. Guests can expect live entertainment, special food and drink offerings and other festive activities throughout the day as the all-day café marks its debut while celebrating French culture.
Etoile Cuisine et Bar, 1101 Uptown Park, will celebrate Tuesday July 14’s Bastille Day with a four-course prix-fixe menu featuring French-inspired dishes from chef Philippe Verpiand. The $78 menu includes Maine lobster medallions, seared sea bass, French veal medallions and a warm almond and black cherry cake, with optional wine pairings available for an additional $40. Dishes can also be ordered à la carte, and reservations are encouraged.
On Thursday, July 16, CocuSocial will host a pasta-making class at Lyric Market, 411 Smith, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Guests will learn how to make fresh pasta dough before rolling, cutting and shaping it into pappardelle and linguini using a pasta machine. The hands-on class includes all ingredients and equipment, with guests working in shared groups. Participants must be 21 or older.
