An incoming Italian restaurant in Ballston has posted signage and is moving forward with plans to open in about a year.
Grazie Nonna, a full-service restaurant inspired by the home cooking of its founder’s grandmother, hopes to open in mid-2027 at 4075 Wilson Blvd, a spokesperson told ARLnow. Signs direct visitors to the establishment’s Instagram and a newsletter for more updates.
In the meantime, Grazie Nonna offers catering services out of its location in downtown D.C.
“Grazie Nonna is inspired by those neighborhood Italian-American restaurants that you’ve never heard of, but fall in love with the moment you walk in,” the restaurant says on its Instagram page.
Grazie Nonna, which filed permits to open in Ballston in February, is from the same team behind Grazie Grazie. Founder Casey Patten opened that fast-casual spot for Italian subs, pizza and salad at nearby 4121 Wilson Blvd last year.
Grazie Nonna’s D.C. menu features eight kinds of pizzas, with specialties like The Mistress, which includes hot Italian sausage, roasted red peppers and garlic cream.
Diners can also create their own pie or order pasta dishes with sauces such as red, vodka and alfredo. More Italian-American dishes like shrimp scampi, chicken parmigiana and eggplant parmigiana are additionally available.
Another popular option is the “Feed Me Nonna Style,” which provides diners with “Nonna’s selection of her favorite antipasti, pizza, macaroni and dessert.”
This will be the restaurant’s second location, replacing Rustico, which closed in March 2024 after 14 years at 4075 Wilson Blvd.
