North Texas is welcoming thousands of French soccer fans as France faces Spain in the World Cup championship match at Dallas Stadium on Tuesday, a day that also marks one of France’s most important national holidays.
Bastille Day, France’s national holiday, falls on the same day as the World Cup final, creating a unique and emotional moment for members of the French community living in North Texas and for visitors traveling from overseas.
Among those eagerly awaiting the match is Quentin Hernandez, a native of France who has called Dallas home for several years. Hernandez serves as president of Oui Dallas, an organization that helps connect and support the French community across the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
For Hernandez, the timing of the match makes the experience even more meaningful.

“Having the people I love from back home, in a place that is my new home, now on a special day for both countries,” Hernandez said. “So having my mom with me is going to be something that I think we’ll remember for the rest of our lives.”
Hernandez recently traveled to Boston to watch the French national team play and will be cheering on “Les Bleus” once again during Tuesday’s championship match. His mother booked a last-minute flight from the south of France to be part of what he calls a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
“It’s a blessing,” Hernandez said. “Sometimes things happen for a reason. And I hope for good reasons, we get the win, and we celebrate after.”
Hernandez said he expects visitors from France to feel right at home in North Texas.
“Here, the culture is very welcoming. It has a soul. It’s very unique from any other place in the United States,” he said. “And I’m sure people will come and blend in together.”
The semifinal match kicks off at 2 p.m. at Dallas Stadium.
Oui Dallas is helping organize a large watch party at Hendy’s on Henderson Avenue in Dallas, with doors opening at 11 a.m.
Organizers expect fans to gather hours before kickoff to celebrate both the World Cup final and Bastille Day.
Festivities for the national holiday will continue after the match regardless of the outcome.
A Bastille Day celebration is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. at Hendy’s.
Meanwhile, the Bishop Arts District will host a major Bastille Day festival from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. The event will feature a “Bastille Walk” with French food, drinks and entertainment as streets in the district are closed to accommodate the celebration.
Attending the festival is free but organizers ask that you buy tickets online if you want to do the food and drink crawl.
Fun fact: The Oak Cliff neighborhood was originally established as a French Utopian colony called La Reunion, which is from where the iconic Reunion Tower in Downtown Dallas also received its name. Nearly 350 men and women settled the Oak Cliff area in the 1850s, although most eventually moved elsewhere. That is why the Oak Cliff neighborhood continues to host the Bastille Day celebration every year.
According to Hernandez, French visitors began arriving in North Texas over the weekend, allowing locals to show off some of Dallas’ most popular attractions before the championship match.
“We went to the stockyards. They got to see their first rodeo. You had a lot of French and Spanish jerseys over there. No animosity between the two. We got along well,” Hernandez said.
Whether France brings home another World Cup title or not, Hernandez believes the combination of soccer’s biggest stage and France’s national holiday will make Bastille Day 2026 in Dallas a celebration French fans will never forget.
“I feel like all French people here are happy about it. We are going to get together anyway. The big benefits of Bastille Day during the World Cup here in Dallas is that also people that are not French or not necessarily aware that this is happening, get a chance to meet with us in person and discover our culture and spend some time,” he said. “This is a special day in France, that we also have our 4th of July, and they get a chance to come and spend time with us and hopefully celebrate the win.”
All La Madeleine’s locations in DFW will be airing the France vs. Spain match on Tuesday and will be doing special deals for Bastille Day, the national holiday of France.
