French bakery PAUL is celebrating its roots in the best way it knows how: by giving away 1,000 free baguettes, 1,500 barista-made drinks and even the chance to win a year’s supply of bread, and wee’ve never been more tempted to pop into our nearest PAUL for a chance to celebrate – oui oui!

To mark Bastille Day (it’s today, FYI), the bakery is pulling out all the stops with a one-day celebration inspired by France’s national holiday, and if you’re nearby, it’s well worth a detour.

And it sounds like the early risers are in luck. Between 8am and 9am today (14 July), the first 50 customers at each of PAUL’s 31 stores across London, Oxford and Reading wearing stripes of any kind will be rewarded with a free barista-made drink. Breton top? Perfect. Striped socks? That’ll do! Then comes the event we’re most excited about.

PAUL

From 3pm, PAUL will stage its own ‘Storming of the Baguette’, a playful nod to the Storming of the Bastille. Across five London bakeries, the brand will hand out 1,000 freshly baked baguettes, with 200 available at each participating store until they’re gone. If you’ve ever experienced the joy of tearing into a still-warm French baguette, you’ll know exactly why we’d want one.

And because free bread apparently wasn’t enough, PAUL is also giving one lucky customer the chance to win a year’s supply of baguettes. Simply share a photo of your baguette on Instagram or Facebook between 14 and 31 July, tag @PaulBakeryUK and use #StormingOfTheBaguette to be entered into the prize draw.

A free coffee, a warm baguette and the possibility of free bread for a year? We’d say that’s a pretty good way to celebrate Bastille Day.
