The Worcester Planning Board on Wednesday approved a site plan for a new shopping plaza that will feature chain restaurants with Mediterranean and brunch menus.
The board voted 4-0 to approve the plan for the plaza at 278 Grove St., which will have CAVA and First Watch as future tenants.
CAVA is a chain restaurant founded in Maryland that specializes in selling Mediterranean cuisine in the form of food bowls and pita wraps, according to its website.
First Watch is a chain restaurant founded in Florida, serving breakfast, brunch and lunch items such as avocado toast, pancakes and omelets, according to First Watch’s website.
Neither chain has a restaurant in Worcester, according to their websites.
The development at 278 Grove St. will be a 10,820-square-foot retail building, according to documents submitted to the planning board. The retail building will feature space for three office tenants and two additional restaurants, according to the project site plan. The project also calls for the construction of 153 new parking spaces, according to the site plan.
The two restaurants will be built separately from the retail building. The First Watch restaurant will be 3,700 square feet while the CAVA restaurant will be 2,580 square feet, according to the project plans
The firm behind the project is the Natick-based Stonegate Group LLC. The company owns 40 properties, with 39 located in Massachusetts and one in Berlin, Connecticut, according to its website. Most of the properties owned by Stonegate are residential and commercial buildings. The firm also owns nine properties that were built for solar panel installations, according to the website.
Stonegate acquired the Grove Street property in 2022, the firm’s website reads. The property was bought for $2 million from Bodycote Thermal Processing Inc., according to city records.
