If you’re burnt out on icy drinks and frozen treats and looking for a new way to cool off this summer, then allow me to direct you to the freezer aisle at the grocery store, where a criminally underrated, cold, and refreshing snack awaits you: frozen fruit.
Regular fruit is already refreshing as is, especially coming out of the fridge, but frozen fruit is even better. It’s like nature’s take on an ice pop. Except chunks of frozen fruit are so much easier to eat than sucking on an ice pop, especially if you’re doing things while snacking. Plus, they’re less messy than an ice cream bar. And, if you prefer cold sips, you can just toss frozen fruit in a blender to make a smoothie.
Aldi has a solid selection of frozen fruit bags—some of which are pretty unique—including the Tropical Fruit mix, which includes mango, papaya, pineapple, and strawberries. That said, cherry lovers like me have always been disappointed that Aldi never seemed to carry just frozen cherries. Thankfully, a recent Reddit discovery proved otherwise, and if you love cherries too, you’ll want to take note.
Aldi’s Season’s Choice Dark Sweet Cherries
If you’re looking for frozen cherries at Aldi, you can generally only get them mixed in with the grocery store’s Cherry Berry Blend, which also has blueberries and strawberries. But according to some shoppers, the store actually does carry frozen cherries—they’re just a bit of a rare find.
A Redditor recently posted that they found a 24-ounce bag of frozen Dark Sweet Cherries at their Aldi in California, which they noted were “amazing.” Many of the commenters were excited by the find, with one noting they’d “never seen frozen cherries at Aldi.” Another wrote, “I’ve been asking for these for years,” while some said they’d be “running” to the store to find them.
However, a few commenters revealed that the cherries aren’t new but simply not often in stock. One commenter wrote, “I hardly ever find them but they are so good!” while another joked, “Shhhhhh don’t tell anyone! These are a fave of mine and they were all out of stock this week.” A few also described how they like to use the cherries, including making sourdough, brownies, yogurt bowls, and even blended iced coffee.
According to fans, the cherries also taste amazing right out of the bag. One commenter wrote, “I like to munch these frozen—like the best ever version of sherbet!” Another shopper chimed in, sharing, “I buy these and me and my 4-year-old just eat them frozen, lol.”
So, if you’re looking for frozen cherries to snack on or for a sweet cherry treat, Aldi might have what you’re looking for. Whether the Dark Sweet Cherries stick around remains unclear, but they don’t appear to be an Aldi Finds item. If you happen to be at Aldi for your weekly grocery shopping or to peruse its weekly July Finds, it can’t hurt to pop by the frozen section.
