I want to eat this unflavored pea protein powder every day. How real are claims that the metal levels are too high for daily use? I love this brand in my morning smoothie so much. 😭
Is any level safe? What do you do?
I feel like we need to pay attention to anything we ingest every single day for decades, event water.
Thank you! 🎄

I love this brand too, but the lead levels that they sent to me when I asked about it were just too high for me to keep using it. I can’t remember off hand, but it was right around the daily FDA limit, all from a single source. I’m just not confident that every other source of lead in my diet which I’m unaware of isn’t putting me into dangerous territory if I continue using this. Technically, they are under the limit though, so everyone should just decide for themselves. It’s my favorite protein powder.
Are there any vegan brands that are more acceptable on lead levels? I see this a lot for vegan protein powder
Spreading your protein sources across a few different brands and types is probably the smartest move if you’re going to be using it daily for years.
Which metals are high? Lead? Cadmium?
Read about the specific metals, the levels at which they have been shown to cause harm, and whether that varies by age and sex.
For lead, safety recommendations for kids are different from adults because of the way lead can affect their development. Lead isn’t good for full-grown adults either, but we’re not as sensitive to tiny amounts as kids are.
You may decide you can safely eat this in moderate amounts, eat it but only occasionally as a treat, or that you are better off just not eating it.
The best decision is an informed decision.
According to Consumer Lab the organization that tests supplements, the plant protein powder they tested they was low in heavy metals and high in protein was Garden of Life Raw Organic Protein-Plant Based unflavored.
everything from the ground is high in lead yall there’s no real avoiding it besides hydroponic agriculture but the downsides of that are microplastics so pick ur poison
I used to use that but concern about metals contamination led to switch to roasted soybeans. They have tons of protein and taste better than the powder.
I use Naked.
Just a head’s up, I went plant-based several years ago to figure out some GI stuff and to also lose weight… it helped a lot with both… but over about three months was downing pea-protein based veg smoothies like there was no tomorrow and gave myself a nasty case of gout, which I still struggle with to this day (nearly a decade later) and need medication for.
Some of it was genetic, and fast weight loss also releases a lot of uric acid, but pea protein is also high in purines.
Hilarious that cutting out sugar, going vegan, and losing weight triggered gout, since all of the above is often recommended to avoid gout, but here we are.
The suggestion to rotate protein sources is 💯
