    This is my first year growing tomatoes since childhood. I seriously underestimated how much they grow. I was worried I was behind but they’re taller than I am now. I’m going to have to build a real support structure for them next year.

    Good problem but I’d thin out the lower portion of the plants to make it easier to find the tomato’s lol

    I cage when I plant and drive a deep stake and secur cage to it ….after they start to overgrow I tie the branches to the cage just ensure to keep them from blowing to much in storms ( we get some active thunderstorms in western Maryland ) I also firmly believe tomatoes plants are loners, I planted 5 this year 2 sweet cherry ( my family and I eat cherry tomatoes like candy ) and 3 big beef ….
    I have them as far apart as possible and they are the healthiest, happiest , tomatoe plants I have ever had…..and full of fruit . They are also easier to add support with twine when not crowded…I almost never prune let them go

    Meanwhile mine haven’t produced a single tomato but my figs want to take over the yard 😓

    Best of luck, and I’d recommend pruning for access to reach inside, because that is a literal jungle there and you are going to miss out on some fantastic tomatoes.

    Looks like mine lol I have 3 plants in a 4*8 bed and they’ve completely overtaken it, they’ve outgrown the 7 foot trellis and have flopped back down to the ground. They’re probably 12 foot tall if I stood them up straight.
