Windowsill grower here for a windowsill update The windowsill pumpkins are doing well. No female flowers but that's okay, I'm not expecting pumpkins from them. The two in water ARE STILL ALIVE! they're being neglected though and have more alge bloom than the reflective pool. Almost. I'm having some issues with my outdoor pumpkin plants. The first issue is that the oldest leaves are becoming pale and sad. Is this indicative of something? Too much water? Too little? I also have some of that spotty white fungus stuff, maybe it's that? The second problem is that non of my female flowers have survived long enough to bloom. They grow a little, inch at most, then die. Is it because their pots are too small and the plant knows it can't support a fruit? Is it because the seeds were from a store bought decorative pumpkin and the plants are sterile? Any insight would be appreciated. It's just a big bummer.
In lighter news, my windowsill avocado that has been sitting there for MONTHS finally sprouted. I'm very excited and would love name suggestions.
I hear there's been a ton of wasps this Summer, like more than usual! My friend works on a farm and has been seeing a ton of them, and I've been seeing them and their nests every day lately. At least some of the pollinators are doing well I guess, but I wish the local bee populations would bounce back like that too! ๐ Stay safe! ๐ Wasps can smell pheromones on you, so they can tell if you're feeling scared or upset or angry, and thus won't view you as a threat as long as you stay calm and avoid giving off the fear/anger smells and give them space, and stay nonreactive or make very slow gentle relaxed movements to get away. Even if they bump into you to check you out or land on you, staying calm is the best way to remain unstung and safe. Slow deep breathing and lowering your heart rate shows them that you're safe and calms your nervous system too. I had a wasp land on my hand yesterday, and it just sniffed me and crawled on me a bit as I spoke to it softly, and then it flew back off peaceably. ๐
Lima beans took me out the other day. They were suposed to be bush beans! One is over 20 feet. I was not prepared. There are now strings running to my deck. I went down tying them up ๐
Good on you for normalising safety gear. Would a rope rigged vertically and secured top and bottom with some Fort of sliding arrestor help? The ones I know are gri gris (never tried to self because an assent with one though), but cavers and rope access folks have ones that can be slid by hand for hand jamming up a rope, you still wouldn't have two point, safety, but would improve things if you want a climbing option
Just have a few drinks before you go up and you won't care about the height or the wasps. And if you feel like that's not enough then have a few more and PUNCH THOSE BEES IN THE FREAKIN FACE
You owe your cat neighbor an apology. Those cats will do more for fending off small pest than your electric fence. I donโt even like cats and Iโm speaking out for them. CATS DONT LIKE VEGETABLES ๐
Hey- just a suggestion, im sure you're plenty experienced, but have you considered rigging a method to have two clips, so you can be continually clipped in? Ive been loving your content for the past few weeks, and even watched back a bunch of older videos, so ๐ anything to make sure both you AND your veggies make it to the podium!!

Ppl saying a fake/crocheted one made other ways steer clear from making another nest again.
Wd40 can give you a spray for wasps in a emergency
How are your watermelons doing?
Imagine having a 1400 pound pumpkin fall on you. You would be squashed.

๐ sport mode happy your safe!
"accidentally put it into sport mode"
Men ๐ they never "accidentally" do this to their boss.
When do you start your long gourds? My wife wants to groe one next year
Rough Summer this year, eh? Hang in there!

I genuinely love the crazy amount of effort that goes into these fruits.
Lol. Taking a guess hubby's the beneficiary ๐๐๐

How many different fruits do you grow to max size for competitions
I'd take his drone away!
Dale's face at the end!
Ok. Wow. Sport mode is dangerous! Definitely not programmed to be at face-level.
Omg dodging wasps and drones. Gourds aren't for the weak!
Pumpkin girl to the vines: FIRMLY GRASP IT!
I might suggest hanging faux wasp nests from the trellis to help deter others moving in.
Way to take safety seriously!! ๐
Don't worry, the drone would have been unlikely to do any real damage even to your face, its the fall that could have killed you.
Nooooo!!! Stop making me emotionally invested in your various Giant Vegetables! or fruits? Either way, stop making these things so entertaining ๐
