Community Corners Food Bank in New Albany receives 1,500+ pounds of donations

NEW ALBANY, Ind. —

Community members donated more than 1,500 pounds of food to the Community Corners Food Bank in New Albany.

In December, the Floyd County Public Library Board voted to phase out the Community Corners Food Bank. Following public outcry, the board reversed course and decided to keep it open.

Recently, a group of volunteers led by Brad Meyer organized a food drive that collected more than 1,500 pounds of food. Meyer credited the turnout to “Hoosier generosity” and said the response has inspired him to do more.

“This gave us the opportunity to do something concrete,” Meyer said. “It was a dry run for a larger push on the issue of food insecurity.”

According to Feeding America, an estimated 1 in 6 Indiana residents experiences food insecurity.
