One of the best tomatoes in my greenhouse ripened. I was going to save it for seeds because she's a beautiful honker. I dont remember what variety it was, it may have been one of my last seeds from a Russian variety. Left it in the greenhouse and told my aunt I'm leaving one for seeds 😭😭she forgot and ate it with my daughter.

I'm so sad right now. Apparently it was delicious because my husband said they were smacking their lips and kept repeating how much they love tomato sandwiches 🥲 thought I would post the beautiful tomato that got away

Ask her for her poop. The seeds are probably still good.

Too bad now they will never have another tomato sandwich that good! I am sorry for your loss and hope a new contender arises.

It’s probably a sign that you’ll get more!

  4. Looks like somebody needs to follow her around with a baggy for the next day or so.

You’re going to have to eat one of your cousins to make it even. Which one is the troublemaker…?

Tell her she has worms and needs to take a fecal sample now to test to get them back 😭

Another fruit from the same plant will give the same seeds!

  8. antpharms

Ouch. This is something that would eat me up inside. Hope you get another tomato on the plant!

Maybe they cut off the top and composted it? There may be a stray seed?

Believe it or not, Str8 to the guillotine.

Put her in a room with a toilet that doesn’t flush like they do in prisons you’ll get your seeds back!!

I don’t know if this offers any consolation but the genes of the seeds in the tomato are only going to be determined by the plant itself, and possibly another tomato parent if it cross pollinated. No reason to think that tomato was the only source of the good genetics, any other seeds from that plant will give you the same result (assuming it’s genetics are stable, aka a heirloom)

Tell your aunt she needs to collect her feces and clean off any seeds for you.

The attributes of the fruit are inherited completely from the parent plant, and don’t indicate anything about the seeds. You can save the seeds from any other tomato on that plant and it will get you to the same place.

For example, you could even cross pollinate that plant with another, but the fruit will still look just like the parent plant. The seeds though would be completely different after cross pollination.

Do you have any other fruit from that plant at all?

Well…you could ask them for their poop, like in a poop test container?

Tell the aunt she can never visit again, or she has to bring her own tomatoes. Not only did she eat your favorite tomato, but she ignored your ask to not eat certain tomatoes. I might be delving into Aita territory, but your aunt is TA.

Honestly, pretty rude, after all your work. Even if you can save other seeds from the same plant, I’m still sad for you, OP. You deserved that tomato yourself.

    Amazing what people forget.
I asked someone’s to water my garden while we were away. They were welcome to pick a few but please do not strip the garden the day before we get back. My very words. Half ass watered but full ass stripping every ripe or near ripe tomato , pepper, Juliet and cherry tomatoes, haricot verts.
I was pissed ;still pissed 20 years later. My wife didn’t care, thought I was over reacting. She still does help with the garden and complains I could be doing other things to the house when I set it up.
But you got ….every day it’s” I love me some tomato sandwiches especially on your homemade bread.”

I had a huge Tomande that weighed in at 15 oz, they’re only supposed to be 6 oz, and I was cutting it up and trying it and if it was good, I was going to save seeds from it because it was huge. Yeah no. Forgot all about it and cut the entire thing up and started making salsa with it 🤦🏻‍♀️. I feel your pain. I’m hoping I get at least one more this size and not screw it up.

I’m heartbroken for you! I feel that pain down deep. I saw the comments about using seeds from other tomatoes on the same plant. I’ve always heard save the biggest and healthiest, but I hope that those comments are accurate.

Make them poop in the garden, it’s the only way
