Who must know the way to make a proper home? Not Nara Smith, that’s who. The influencer, known for her ridiculously elaborate at-home cooking videos and chillingly calm voice, got heated on Call Her Daddy while explaining why she is not a “tradwife.” “They used me as the poster child for the tradwife movement, which was very bizarre to me,” she said. Then, for emphasis, she Googled the definition of a tradwife and went point by point, describing why the word didn’t fit her.
“I don’t prioritize being a homemaker,” she pointed out to start. “I’m a working mom. I’m out in L.A. I travel a lot.” She added that her husband, model Lucky Blue Smith, does the dishes, and she gets help raising her children from not just him but her mother and her hired help. The only place she gave in was the definition’s focus on how tradwives cook for their family. “Yeah, I like to cook,” she said, a little annoyed. “Sue me. I like to cook. My husband burns everything.”
Eventually, Smith broadened her critique to women in general. “Why can’t we do it all?” she asked, echoing a common feminist sentiment down to the wording. “Why can’t we be a working mom that enjoys cooking, that enjoys being at home taking care of our kids, but also is on the next plane out to L.A. to take business meetings with big executives?” Still, she knows what it looks like for a pregnant woman to be on social media in “very feminine” attire cooking for her family. But now she’s not pregnant, and in her new outfits, she doesn’t get the tradwife comparison. “I don’t think a tradwife would be cooking in Schiaparelli or a Moschino straight off the runway,” she said coyly. Those are not the clothes of yesteryear.
