Sometimes you get lucky…. I scored a few King Oscar tins this past weekend at my local Publix after weeks of not seeing any on the shelves

My Walmart was out too, why is this happening? Is there a shortage? Or is it because it’s the cheapest thing?

Yes, it’s terrible now. If I weren’t allergic to tomato I’d be eating those oval canned sardines in tomato sauce. Those were at discount stores and in Latino foods sections for the longest time.

I went to a TJ’s and a lady was speaking to one of the employees about when can she get sardines because they’re always sold out. There was plenty of tuna, salmon, trout, etc.

Every time I go to Trader Joe’s and ask about the sardines, I am told they only get one box per day. And buyers are snapping them up. But not every store is like this. I shopped at a Russian store near me (that I’d never visited before) and they had lots of everything. I found a fantastic Baltic Gold salmon. It was so good, I went back and bought 3 more.

At least yours has Season mackerel, that’s my usual tin and I haven’t seen it anywhere in a while, even Amazon doesn’t list it anymore. King Oscsr mackerel is okay, but such false advertising the way they call them “royal filets” but you open the tin to find eviscerated fish every time.

You might need to check the days that they restock

It’s crazy how a few years ago sardines were touted as one of the most sustainable fish choices and that there was an over supply of them in our oceans… at least that’s what I remember when I began eating them. Fast forward a few years and there is maybe one variety in most supermarkets in Southern Italy where I live 😳

Get the Tiny Tots. They’re just a differently branded KO cross-pack. Exact same in every way.

Your local Middle Eastern stores might have Moroccan sardines

Living in this reality and feeling like if I see another post rejoicing about those mushy ass pacific sardines as Costco I’ll die

Hey, at least you’ve got Tiny Tots and at a good price! They’re twice that here, except there are none in the stores.

    Also, Season’s pretty decent.

But your store has Tiny Tots! They’re delicious.

I was suprised my local Walmart was stocked today. I was able to buy regular priced sardine for the first time in along time whether they’ve been outta stock or 6 bucks for king Oscar

Is this because of the tinned fish reviews guy who’s always on my socials now (and the reason I sought out this sub)?

My local Kroger was stocked, but the prices… ouch.

    Hoping Costco will get restocked…

I noticed they been better stocked recently at HEB

Those Brunswick herring fillets are pretty good ngl. I buy them all the time.

  19. Check out an Asian market if you have one near you. it’s plentiful, at least in my area. They always have loads of Nuri, tomé, flower, and other good Asian brands.

My local grocery stores have very slim pickings these days. Fishwife cans are plentiful because they are the pricey option. My favorite Brunswick and KO have become much harder to find.

There’s a sardine shortage right now because of the Moroccan freeze on exports.

Sardine and mackerel populations are kinda low at the moment due to overfishing.
