Chile’s harvest for 2026 is one that is “defined by precision, marked by technical consistency and with a clear regional identity across its leading valleys”, according to Viña Concha y Toro 2026 harvest report.

The growing season varied from region to region, but benefitted from adequate rainfall in winter, which topped up the water levels, as well as a favourable spring that gave the vines a good start. The ripening period however “evolved at different paces  across coastal and inland regions”, CYT said, resulting in “a clear distinction between coastal influenced valleys and inland appellations… and distinctive final wine profiles.”

In Limarí for example, there was above average rain during the winter, and the persistent morning cloud cover caused by the coastal fog (camanchaca) elevated the relative humidity and allowed a level of heat accumulation that favoured “slow, gradual and even ripening”, the company said, resulting in wines “with exceptional aromatic precision, marked tension and a distinct mineral profile”.

This delayed start in Limarí contrasted to the more active start to the growing season in Maipo, Peumo and Maule however.

Maipo, which is home to Viña Concha y Toro’s historic vineyards and the source of some of its finest Cabernet Sauvignons, benefitted from a good start in the spring, which was warmer than the previous year. This was followed by stable summer temperatures without extreme weather events, promoting “steady and uninterrupted ripening” that favoured concentrated fruit, “structural finesse and overall balance”. The weather in March and April was stable and dry, providing a broad harvest window, “allowing optimal picking decisions based on phenolic maturity”, it said.

The resulting wine shows “remarkable structural coherence, with well-defined fruit, refined tannins and a depth and elegance fully consistent with the historical identity of the valley”, the company added.

“The season unfolded under particularly favourable vineyard conditions, with adequate water availability, excellent fruit health and a growing cycle free from significant climatic disruptions,” it said.

The weather in Peumo DO in the Cachapoal Valley (where the company’s Carmenere wines comes from), was particularly favourably for late-ripening varieties. Winter rains and an early start in the spring was checked by rainfall in March which helped cool things down at a critical stage. This moderated the pace of ripening and allowing a “gradual and uninterrupted evolution during a crucial period for achieving balance between technological and phenolic maturity”, the company said, resulting in wines with intensity, freshness, concentration and character.

A similar rain event in the Maule required careful vineyard management and well-timed harvesting decisions, the company said. Merlot in San Clemente was predominantly harvested under ideal conditions before the rains, while in Cauquenes, performance was also highly positive, “producing wines with excellent fruit expression, softness and balance” it said.

Reflecting on the harvest overall, Marcelo Papa, technical director of Viña Concha y Toro said the 2026 harvest “confirms that quality is built upon a precise understanding of each origin.”

“Rather than being defined by extremes, it was a vintage in which balance and each vineyard’s ability to express its identity proved decisive”, he said.

The company further noted that the 2026 harvest was “not defined by a single factor, but by the clarity with which each origin expressed its winemaking potential.”

“The coastal influence in Limarí, the structural stability of Maipo, the precise adjustment of the growing cycle in Peumo and the resilience demonstrated in Maule all contributed to a harvest of exceptional quality across the company’s portfolio, from Super Premium to Icon wines.”
