Legado’s Taberna to host monthly Spanish wine tastings in Shoreditch
13th August 2026
Legado, the Michelin-starred Shoreditch restaurant from chef Nieves Barragán Mohacho, will be hosting a series of guided Spanish wine tastings in its ground-floor Taberna this autumn, with the first session on Thursday 17th September focusing on Rioja. The event takes place monthly with just 12 guests for each evening, and tickets are £60 per person.
A tasting will last around an hour and will centre on a different Spanish wine style or region. Five wines will be served alongside two to three tapas dishes selected to accompany them, with examples including Pan con Tomate, Ham Croquetas with Manchego and Gordal Olives with Orange and Oregano. Guests will be seated together at communal tables, a format the restaurant says reflects the arrangement of traditional Spanish wine bars.
The series is hosted by Legado’s head sommelier, Marcos Rapado Segurado. The opening session examines Spain’s best-known wine region, Rioja – the first in the country to be awarded Denominación de Origen Calificada status (the highest classification in the Spanish system for quality and provenance). Attendees will taste five wines while learning about the region’s history, its principal grape varieties and its winemaking traditions, covering both oak-aged red wines and the broader range of styles now produced there. Later in the series, sherry will addressed on Thursday 15th October, and Wednesday 11th November will take as its focus the wines of Castilla y León.
The Taberna is the tapas and pintxos bar area within Legado. Its fluted arched ceiling was designed with reference to traditional Barcelona craftsmanship, and the room forms the entrance to the wider establishment, opening into a double-height dining room. Legado, whose name translates as “legacy”, is Barragán Mohacho’s most recent restaurant, awarded its first Michelin star in February of this year. The chef, formerly of Barrafina and Sabor, has described the project as drawing on her own experience of living between Spain and the UK, and the menu and experience is structured around the regions, traditions and ingredients of her home country.
