Casa Artusi preserves Artusi’s culinary heritage

Casa Artusi, the museum of Italian domestic cuisine in Forlimpopoli, continues to promote the heritage born from Pellegrino Artusi’s “Science in the Kitchen and the Art of Eating Well.” The book, published at the end of the 19th century, established a model of cooking based on hygiene, economy and good taste, principles that today resonate with sustainability and the fight against food waste.

The connection between Romagna and Umbria appears in the many letters sent to Artusi: several correspondences from Umbrian towns are preserved in Casa Artusi’s archive and are consultable in the interactive museum. These documents show how the house-museum functions as a cultural laboratory, promoting domestic cooking as a shared heritage.

Document archive: letters sent to Artusi from various Umbrian locations in the early 20th century.
Core values: moderation, care for ingredients and sustainable domestic practices at the heart of tradition.
Programs: exhibitions, events and interactive consultation for citizens, students and food enthusiasts.

Casa Artusi thus stands as a “living museum” of Italian cooking: not a shrine, but a hub connecting stories, recipes and communities, contributing to the preservation and understanding of Italy’s food culture.
