Times reporters, editors and photographers traveled the U.S. for over a year to find their favorites. Five Texas restaurants made the cut: Nixta Taqueria in Austin, Hugo’s in Houston, Garcia’s Mexican Food in San Antonio, Taquería Elemi in El Paso and Burnt Bean Company in Seguin.
Dallas’ two Michelin-starred restaurants in the 2025 guide — Mamani and Tatsu Dallas — serve French and Japanese food, respectively. Mexican restaurants Tatemó in Houston and Mixtli in San Antonio, meanwhile, earned stars.
Chef-owner Regino Rojas of Revolver Taco Lounge and its Michoacán tasting room, Purépecha, was a 2025 James Beard Award nominee for Best Chef in Texas. Rojas has been a semifinalist for Best Chef seven times.
Some newcomers — including Olōyō and Maroma — have also received praise for their food.
For now, North Texans looking to try one of The Times’ picks for Mexican eateries will have to hit the road.
